New Sunday Programme

Leaders

Schedule of Dates

The aim is to encourage senior runners of all abilities to join these runs, whether it is members new to the sport or hardened runners seeking more serious training. The programme has been designed to offer a variety of runs both locally and further afield to enjoy the great countryside that is within easy reach but with which you may not be familiar. Following the recent survey of members a new programme has been devised and the key points to note are as follows;

1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.

The existing formats for the runs previously notated as Pub Runs and Trailblazers on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month will continue largely as before but with the following changes:

  • The meeting times will be unified at 9.45 am.
  • The venues will continue to be away from the central Amersham/Chesham area but the majority will be within 20 minutes drive time.
  • New shorter runs of 5/6 miles will be introduced to encourage new members or those with time constraints.

2nd and 4th Sundays of the month

These are locally based runs and the key points to note are:

  • The meeting time will be 9.00 am.
  • The meeting points will alternate between Hervines Park in Amersham (second Sunday) and The Moor in Chesham (fourth Sunday).
  • A range of distances will be on offer from 5/6 to 10 miles.
  • There will be a designated "leader" for each run who will be there to co-ordinate the run but will not act as guide or pacemaker for the day. We need "leaders" to help run this programme. If you are able to help please see the attached note. The commitment is not onerous if we spread the load.
  • A limited number of maps will be provided to brief runners at the start on the proposed route(s) and available to peer groups to help navigation for those not familiar with the local area. The intention is to encourage runners to form peer groups for the run.
  • It is hoped that by the use of a number of "standard" runs and increased numbers that the need for maps will diminish in time.

For details of all runs please see the up to date programme on the web site www.chiltern-harriers.org.uk.

Sunday Runs "leader"

It is not the intended that the "leader" will act as guide or pacemaker for the group so athletic ability is not a prerequisite. The role is summarised as follows:

  • Guaranteed presence on your appointed day.
  • Welcome new members and introducing them to someone of similar ability.
  • Stipulate the designated routes for the day.
  • Take maps to the start and distribute selectively to peer groups.
  • Ensure the runs start promptly
  • Try to ensure that new members return safely to the start point.
  • If possible collect maps for reuse.
  • There is no reason why more than one person cannot share the role.

If we can spread the load the commitment will be no more than a couple of sessions a year and take little more time on the day to your usual run.

If you think you may be able to help please contact Graham Palser on 01494 721973, by e-mail gpalser@btconnect.com or on Tuesday night.
