There were gold medals galore for Chiltern Harriers young athletes at
the final match in this season’s Chiltern Cross Country League at
Cottesloe School, Wing.
In an unprecedented level of success for a Chiltern League season,
there were team golds for the Under 11 boys, Under 11 girls, Under 13
boys, Under 15 boys and Under 15 girls with silver for the Under 13
girls and bronze for the Under 17 men.
The Chiltern young athletes were the leading young athletes team for
the second match running and were second best for the season as a
whole.
On the day the Under 11 girls were down on numbers but ran well to
secure a team win for the season by the slenderest of margins, despite
being only fourth on the day. Sandie Pohlman continued her great season
to be fifth, Hannah West had another good run to be 13th and Lily
Pearson was third scorer in 28th. Izzy Puncher and Emily Westwood had
great debuts to be 44th and 48th and Jess Henning had a very good run
to be 46th. The Chiltern girls ended on 916 points to Bracknell’s 909

finished overall fourth for the season.
The Under 11 boys completed another good performance and secured the
league title for the fifth consecutive year. Cameron Reid completed a
great season to be seventh, Ethan Kidd was 11th and Tom Hunter was
15th. The boys were second on the day and there were good runs by
Finley Davis in 16th and Harry Brandon in 18th. Cameron was fourth for
the season.
The Under 13 girls only had four runners out but great runs by Hannah
Thear (4th), Lizzie Barraclough (8th), Orla Fawcett (9th) and Maddy
Lacey (21st) were enough to secure second place on the day and second
overall for the season. Hannah finished third for the season and Lizzie
eighth with Abi Jones 12th and Katie McCartney 15th.
The Under 13 boys continued their great season with a win on the day to
secure team gold for the season. Sam Henning maintained his great
recent form to win the race and Will Perkin (sixth), Fred Sanders
(eighth) and Rob Hall (ninth) completed the scoring. Also running were
Tom Conway (12th), Theo Kontos (20th), Jack Murray (23rd) ,Calum Steer
(25th) and Richard Slade (31st). For the season Angus Denison-Smith was
fifth, Tom Conway seventh, Theo Kontos 11th and Calum Steer 19th.
The Under 15 girls did just enough to ease past league leaders Windsor,
despite Amy Fawcett withdrawing through a turned ankle. Connie Lewis
ran with aplomb to win the race and become Chiltern League champion.
Hannah Morton was third, Katie Bench ninth and Emma Barraclough 13th to
win on the day and squeeze past Windsor to win the league 559 points to
555 with Bedford in third with 545. Sophie Chesterman again ran well to
be 14th. Emma Barraclough ended the season in tenth place overall.
The Under 15 boys showed great strength in depth to win the race on the
day and the league overall with Bill Hughes (second), Joe Aherne
(fourth), Sam Butcher (sixth) and Callum Neal (ninth) all having great
runs. James McCarthy was joint winner for the season, Joe Aherne third,
Bill Hughes fourth, and Sam Butcher seventh.

day and ninth for the season. The Under 17 men featured Michael Goddard
in 7th, Ben Whitney 10th, Liam McDonald 13th and Chris Strong 14th to
be third on the day to confirm third for the season. Michael was fifth
for the season.
The Senior men had their worst turnout for a league mach for some time
but good runs from those that turned up meant that the team achieved
tenth on the day and were eighth for the season. Fabian Downs had a
great run to be third and Eddie O’Gorman (35th), Derek Brown (47th) and
David Breingan (88th) lead the scoring for the club. Fabian ended the
season fourth Senior Man, David Breingan was 19th Vet 40, Tony
Richardson ninth Vet 50, and in the Vet 60s Steve Field was fourth,
Martyn Cartwright sixth and Trevor Brawn ninth.
In the women’s race Sian Thomas had a great run to be sixth and Kirstie
Elliott (18th), Caroline Holden (27th) and Sarah Caulfield (43rd)
completed the scoring to be fourth on the day and third for the season.

another season win for the Chiltern Vet women. Sian was third Senior
Woman, Ali Young second Vet 35, Sarah Caulfield ninth Vet 45, and
Barbara Ralph second Vet 55.
Chiltern ended up overall fifth in Division 1 of the League of fourteen

another very good league season for the club.
