For the second time in three years the Chiltern Harriers Christmas
event, the Bran Tub Relay, had to move from its usual road circuit and
was run instead on the grass of Hervines Park.
Overnight frost had made for treacherous conditions on Devonshire
Avenue so a 600m circuit was constructed in the park, each runner
completing two laps.
On what became a pleasant sunny morning George Gillingwater’s team
ended up victorious with a cumulative time of 28.21. George’s team
comprised Fred Sanders, Katie McCartney, Georgina Barnett and Alex Boyd
with George running the fastest lap of the day with 3.51.
In second place was Julius Fawcett’s team of Ben Smith, Giles Watson,
Rachel Padwick and Simon Denison-Smith, and in third was Jack Walker’s
team of Hannah Thear, Richard Slade, Emma Barraclough and Kathryn
Thornton.
The fastest female lap was Hannah Morton with 4.23 and the best times
from the Under 11s came from Ben Smith with 4.50 and Sophie Morton with
4.54.
Leading parents were, Julius aside, Giles Watson with 4.52 and Tamara
Fawcett with 5.47.
A team for younger and less experienced runners was led by Judith Orr,
with each runner doing one lap only.
