ESAA Schools Cup Final

Princethorpe College, Rugby

Nine Chiltern Harriers were taking part for their schools at this national event, and all came away with great distinction.

The first race was the Intermediate Girls (years 9 and 10). Over a good cross country course of 2.9k Hannah Morton had a great run to be second individually, competing for Aylesbury High School. Katie Bench (48th) and Sophie Chesterman (50th) were the third and fourth scorers for the Beaconsfield High team that finished in third place in the same race.

The next race up was the Junior Boys (years 7 and 8) also running the 2.69k route. The Dr Challoners Grammar team was entirely made up of Chiltern Harriers runners and the boys went one stage further than the previous year by coming second.

In a field of 138 runners Sam Henning was third, Rob Hall seventh, Will Perkin tenth and Fred Sanders 34th to score 54 points. In most years this would be a winning total but the boys were up against defending champions Queen’s College, Taunton who, in scoring 40 points, just held on for the first prize. Freddie Burrell in 62nd and Jonny Stenning in 86th also had good runs.
