Although the temperature was not quite as high as at the
previous week’s Thame 10k, a slightly smaller field (245) than in
previous years waited for Mike Shrive to start the race in full
sunshine. Fortunately as the course turned back towards the finish
after 6km, some cloud cover arrived which was a very welcome relief !
As in 2010, Vale of Aylesbury’s Sri Lankan international Anuradha
Cooray won, this year in a course record of 31:02. Eddie
O’Gorman was third in 33:48, and Derek Brown was 6th in 35:03, over 9
minutes ahead of the second placed V50! Michael Turney was
28th in 39:55, beating the first lady home Sarah Unwin-Mann (Reading
Road Runners) who finished in 39:59. David Breingan completed the men’s
team finishing in a time of 41:45 to come 39th overall. The men’s team
again this year came second to the host club, Vale of
Aylesbury. There were 166 finishers in the men’s race
(2010:194).
The women’s team also came second to Aylesbury, but only by 1 point!
Ali Young was 3rd in the women’s race in 40:33, Sian Thomas 4th in
41:24, Sarah Caulfield recorded a PB coming 11th in 45:40 and Kate
Loach was 22nd in 51:43. There were 79 finishers in the
