County Schools Track and Field Championships

There were many Chiltern Harriers young athletes taking part for their schools in both Bucks and Herts County Schools Championships on Sunday.

The weather was kind and at Handy Cross the Bucks Championships saw great performances across the events.

For the Junior girls (Years 8 and 9) there was a win for Hannah Morton in the 1500m. Katie Bench was fourth and Sophie Chesterman seventh. In the other middle distance event Connie Lewis was second in the 800m in a new PB. Georgie Bingham was eighth in a high quality final and Maria Slade and Emma Barraclough ran in the heats, Maria in a new PB.

In the sprints Sarah Cross was second in the 100m final. Rachel Klima, Lucy Quinlan, Eloise Lenihan and Georgina Proctor gained useful experience in the heats. In the 200m final Claudia McInerney was narrowly pipped into second with Lucy Quinlan again running well in the heats. Robyn Lisle featured in the high jump and long jump.

The Year 7 girls had three time trials for the 800m, Hannah Thear achieving the fastest time of the day. Claire Buttivant and Alex Hughes-Morgan also had good runs.

In the 100m Sarah Massey ran a season’s best. Claire Buttivant increased her shot PB to 6.41m and Sarah Massey had a good long jump competition.

For the Intermediate boys Dominic Janson was second in the 100m with brother Brandon in sixth. In the 200m Dominic was sixth. Nick Brabbs was unlucky to just miss the final and Dan Cady made both finals but withdrew.

Alex Johnson was fourth in the 800m and George Gillingwater second in the 3000m. John Underwood won the 100m hurdles and added third in the discus. John Martin was second in the shot and fifth in the high jump.

The junior boys saw a win for James McCarthy in the 800m with Sam Butcher fourth and Andrew Stenning sixth. The 1500m was a close run thing with Joe Aherne just missing out in third. Bill Hughes was fifth in a new PB and Joe Cochrane ninth. Matt Sperling ran well in the sprints, fifth in the 100m final. Armaan Sandhu won the discus with James Bunker third and James was fifth in the shot with a new PB. Andrew Stenning was ninth in the javelin.

The Year 7 boys had a win for Will Perkin in the 800m with Sam Henning third, Robert Hall fourth, Fred Sanders fifth, and Rohan Montgomery sixth. In the 100m time trials Dan Richards ran 14.0 for the third fastest time. Sam Henning took part in the long jump and Dan Richards was fourth in the shot.

At the Herts Championships at Hemel Hempstead Tom Conway won the U13 boys 800m in a new PB whilst Michael Goddard was third in the Inter boys 800m, also a new best time, with Ben Whitney also getting a PB in fifth. Rachel Padwick was third in the U13 girls 800m, Hannah Wardley was third in the Intermediate girls 1500m and Chloe Allen seventh in the Intermediate girls 300m.

Jimmy Davies and Chris Strong ran well to be sixth and seventh in the Intermediate boys 1500m and Callum Neal was eighth in the Junior boys 1500m.
