In a nail-biting match at Bracknell,
Chiltern Harriers were pipped to
victory by Wycombe Phoenix, 493 to 488, with St Mary’s Richmond a close
third with 461.
The Chiltern team were badly affected by absence amongst the U15 boys due to school trips so did well to stay competitive with a team of 49. Points for all teams were down due to the cancellation of the high jump.
Under 13 girls
On form Hannah Thear ran a superb 1200m in a PB of 3.56.5, one of only
two Grade 1 performances in the match, which puts her in top ten in the
national rankings. She also won the long jump. Amy Bower and Claire
Buttivant won useful points in the sprints and shot, and Lizzie
Barraclough, Orla Fawcett, and Abi Jones ran well in the middle
distance races. Rose Dakin was second in the 70m hurdles.
Under 15 girls
Hannah Morton and Connie Lewis were first and second in the 1500m,
Hannah in a new best of 4.59.50. Rebecca Yeabsley won the 100m and
there were good efforts in the other sprints by Sarah Cross, Hannah
Shepard, and Claudia McInerney. Georgie Bingham ran from the front to
win the 800m with Emma Barraclough third. Rosalind Firth, Alice Hall
and Maria Slade chipped in with useful points in the throws and Amy
Goddard won the long jump with Robyn Lisle fourth.
Under 17 women
Chloe Allen was second in the 300m and 800m, Chess Gordge (picture) second in
100m and 200m and Hannah Wardley second in the 1500m. All three also
won points in field events.
Under 13 boys
Robert Hall and Angus Denison-Smith were first and second in the 1500m
and Will Perkin and Rohan Montgomery also gained maximum points in the
800m. Alex Ahern, Oli Moir and Josh Hughes ran well in the sprints and
Robbie Hill had another win in the shot, supported by Rohan Pandya.
Under 15 boys
Despite missing nine key athletes the boys stayed competitive. Callum
Reid-Jones took second in hurdles, javelin and discus. Callum Neal won
the 1500m and there were good efforts across the events from Frazer
Pegler, Sam Butcher, Matt Sperling and Charlie Smith.
Under 17 men
A strong team scored great points. Dan Cady won the 200m and was second
in the 100m. Jack Walker won the 1500m and John Underwood the discus.
Dominic Janson and Nick Brabbs ran well in the sprints, and there were
good other efforts on the track from Ben Whitney, Jimmy Davies, George
Gillingwater, Michael Goddard and Chris Strong. Harry Sansom took
second in the pole vault. All athletes helped out across the field
events and the 4x100m of Dan Cady, John Underwood, Nick Brabbs and
Dominic Janson had a superb win.
At the halfway point of the season Chiltern are well placed and are looking forward to fielding strong teams in the remaining two matches.
