22nd May 2011

In a nail-biting match at Bracknell, Chiltern Harriers were pipped to victory by Wycombe Phoenix, 493 to 488, with St Mary’s Richmond a close third with 461.

The Chiltern team were badly affected by absence amongst the U15 boys due to school trips so did well to stay competitive with a team of 49. Points for all teams were down due to the cancellation of the high jump.

Under 13 girls
On form Hannah Thear ran a superb 1200m in a PB of 3.56.5, one of only two Grade 1 performances in the match, which puts her in top ten in the national rankings. She also won the long jump. Amy Bower and Claire Buttivant won useful points in the sprints and shot, and Lizzie Barraclough, Orla Fawcett, and Abi Jones ran well in the middle distance races. Rose Dakin was second in the 70m hurdles.

Under 15 girls
Hannah Morton and Connie Lewis were first and second in the 1500m, Hannah in a new best of 4.59.50. Under 15 boys
Despite missing nine key athletes the boys stayed competitive. Callum Reid-Jones took second in hurdles, javelin and discus. Callum Neal won the 1500m and there were good efforts across the events from Frazer Pegler, Sam Butcher, Matt Sperling and Charlie Smith.

Under 17 men
A strong team scored great points. Dan Cady won the 200m and was second in the 100m. Jack Walker won the 1500m and John Underwood the discus. Dominic Janson and Nick Brabbs ran well in the sprints, and there were good other efforts on the track from Ben Whitney, Jimmy Davies, George Gillingwater, Michael Goddard and Chris Strong. Harry Sansom took second in the pole vault. All athletes helped out across the field events and the 4x100m of Dan Cady, John Underwood, Nick Brabbs and Dominic Janson had a superb win.

At the halfway point of the season Chiltern are well placed and are looking forward to fielding strong teams in the remaining two matches.
