Several Chiltern Harriers took part in the first Watford Evening Open of the season on Wednesday. There were many PBs for the athletes taking part.
First year Under 13 Alex Ahern ran in the 100m and he set a good benchmark time of 14.19.
There were plenty of green vests in the 1500m and Race 1 was won in great style by Under 13 David Willcox in a big new PB of 5.08.32. Hannah Wardley - U17 - (5.17.59), Katie Bench - U15 - (5.20.60), Orla Fawcett - U13 - (5.28.40), and Amy Fawcett - U15 - (5.30.43) also achieved new records.
Race 2 saw Under 13s Will Perkin and Angus Denison-Smith plus senior man Julius Fawcett. Will took five seconds off his PB to finish third in 4.55.70, with Angus a great debut at the event of 5.01.55. Julius put in a big sprint finish to finish second in 4.55.66.
Vet 35 Steve Winter ran 4.44.78 and U15 Sam Butcher 4.58.93 in Race 3 and fellow U15 James McCarthy was in the fourth and fastest race of the night and although 11th, recorded an excellent PB of 4.25.24.
Rosalind Firth (U15) ran 800m and finished strongly to log a new PB of 2.30.44.
The final races of the night were the 3000m, with Under 17s George Gillingwater in 9.31.30 and Michael Goddard in 9.12.20 running new bests for the distance.
