English Schools Cross Country Championships

Wollaton Park, Nottingham

Saturday 19th March 2011

There were eleven Chiltern Harriers representing Bucks Schools in the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham on Saturday.

On a warm day with firm underfoot conditions, athletes at the head of the fields were vying for top 8 positions which lead to England caps in the SIAB international on Saturday. Fields were large with around 325 finishers per race.

In the Junior Girls (Years 8 and 9) race there were four Harriers taking part and Connie Lewis had ambitions to feature highly after a 13th position last year. However, injury niggles and a draining season conspired to leave her disappointed in 34th place and second Bucks scorer- still a solid run in very tough company. Hannah Morton had yet another good run to be 60th (third scorer) Georgie Bingham was 223rd (sixth scorer) and Rosalind Firth 300th. Bucks girls were 11th from 44 counties

The Junior Boys featured James McCarthy and Joe Aherne as first and second Bucks scorers in 67th and 90th places respectively. Joe had to be treated for a high temperature and dehydration after a draining run. Andrew Stenning was 169th and sixth Bucks scorer. The team were 15th.

Amy Harris was the sole Chiltern representative in the Inter girls race finishing as seventh Bucks finisher in 227th. George Gillingwater was fourth Bucks scorer in the Inter Boys race in 135th place. Jack Walker was 292nd and Liam McDonald 304th.
