Several Chiltern Harriers were in picturesque Bracknell Forest on Wednesday running for their schools in a tough cross country relay event organised by former National Cross Country Champion, Julian Goater.
In the Senior Boys event Dr Challoners Grammar fielded two teams from a total of 18. Each team consisted of two Year 9s, two Year 8s and two Year 7s - the strength in Year 7 at DCGS meant that Rob Hall and Will Perkin ran in the A team as Year 8s.
The course was around 2.5k and was run on forest paths with some tough hills and muddy sections.
After the first leg, B team runner Andrew Stenning came in first with Joe Aherne of the As close behind in third. The second leg saw Woking High move into the lead with Rob Hall moving the As into second. On the third leg Fred Sanders ran strongly to open up a big lead which Sam Henning, Will Perkin and James McCarthy built on. The winning time was 57.12, two minutes ahead of the second placed team.
The B team finished in fourth with good runs from David Willcox, Jonny Stenning and Joe Cochrane.
In the junior event, teams featured two Year 4s, two Year 5s and two Year 6s. Chiltern athletes taking part were Mimi Houlihan-Burne (Year 6) for Chesham Prep and Harry Brandon (Year 4) for Chalfont St Giles. Mimi was on the last leg for Chesham Prep and had a great run to move the team up into third place and bronze medals. Harry made up seven places and Chalfont St Giles ended up in 12th place.
