Bran Tub Relay

Hervines Park, Amersham

Sunday 2nd January 2011

After postponement due to snow from the 19th December, the Bran Tub Relay took place at Hervines Park on the traditional road course on January 2nd.

Nine teams took part with five runners per team - the team captain running two of the six legs. With the course 1450m long using Devonshire Avenue, Chesham Road and Hervines Road, there were many changes of position which made for an exciting race. There was a good mix of young athletes and parents.

Richard Slade brought the Orange team into the last leg in the lead by thirty seconds and team captain Steve Perkin just hung on despite being chased home by Blue team captain Jack Walker and Yellow team captain Michael Goddard.

The fastest lap of the day came from Michael Goddard on leg 1 with 4.24. Second and third best times were also achieved on the first leg with Jack Walker 4.35 and James McCarthy 4.38. Fastest female was Connie Lewis with 5.07, second was Rosalind Firth with 5.20, third Hannah Wardley with 5.26.

Amongst the Under 11s great times were recorded by Angus Denison-Smith with 5.15 and Orla Fawcett with 5.45.

Fastest dad was Brian Slade with 5.37 just holding off Simon Denison-Smith on 5.53. The fastest mum title was even tighter with Caroline Houlihan-Burne and Lesley Perkin both logging 6.27. Right behind were Tamara Fawcett with 6.33 and Sara Firth on 6.45.
