Nine Chiltern Harriers were taking part in the South of England U13 Track and Field Championships at Kingston on Thames on Sunday.
Thirteen counties from across the South were taking part and Chiltern had eight youngsters competing for Buckinghamshire and one for Hertfordshire. Conditions were good with warm temperatures and some cloud cover.
On the boys side Matt Sperling won the B string 100m in 13.28 and was third in the B string 200m in 27.05. Jack Denton was eighth in the B string long jump with 4.26m and Rohan Pandya was eighth in the A string discus with 17.21m. Bill Hughes ran in the A string 1500m and finished fifth in 4.54.76, slightly outside his PB. Will Perkin was second in the non-scoring 800m in a new PB of 2.26.47.
For the girls Rebecca Yeabsley ran in the A string 70m hurdles and finished sixth in 12.45, slightly behind her best times of the season. Rebecca also ran in the A string 100m to be tenth in 14.20 and the A string 200m to finish ninth in 29.69. Hannah Thear achieved a PB in the B string 1500m to finish seventh in 5.12.86 and Georgie Bingham was a creditable sixth in the B string 800m, just outside her PB with 2.35.79. Hannah Morton was running for Hertfordshire in the A string 1500m and finished ninth in a PB of 5.14.78.
All the athletes gained valuable experience in competing against other top competitors in a championship environment.
