Chiltern Harriers won the final match of the season at Watford on Sunday to secure a highly commendable fourth place in Division 1 (North West).
Up against Kingston and Poly, and Thames Valley Harriers, Chiltern racked up a record 580 points to win the match comfortably from Kingston in second on 440 and TVH in third on 360.
The final league table has Chiltern in fourth with 1976 points.
Under 17 men
The Under 17 men had their best turnout of the season with eleven athletes covering most of the events. Jack Walker stood out with wins in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m steeplechase. George Gillingwater won the 1500m and was second in the 400m hurdles and Gus Bate again ran well in the 400m (3rd) and 800m (2nd). Liam McDonald won the 3000m with Thomas Hughes in second place. Liam was also third in the 400m hurdles and Thomas third in the steeplechase.
In the throws, newcomer James Hamilton won the javelin and was third in the discus, Tom Botham won good points in hammer (3rd), discus (2nd) and shot (3rd). Toby Firth won useful points in long jump, triple jump and 1500m.
The sprinters also had a good day with Dominic Janson second in the 100m and Tom Brady and Daniel Cady also performing well. The 4 x 100m team of Tom Brady, Daniel Cady, Dominic Janson and Gus Bate were second and the 4 x 400m team of George Gillingwater, Daniel Cady, Gus Bate and Jack Walker won.
Under 15 boys
Always a strong team, the Under 15s again performed well with James White gaining victories in the 100m and long jump, Nick Brabbs in the 200m and Brandon Janson second in both sprint races. Michael Goddard and Ben Whitney swapped first and second in the 400m and 800m and James McCarthy and Jimmy Davies also had a 1-2 in the 1500m.
John Underwood again won a hat-trick of victories in the 80m hurdles, discus and hammer in a new PB of 21.82. James Bunker recorded a shot putt PB of 8.91m in coming second and was third in the discus. Michael Goddard and Andrew Stenning were second and third in the javelin.
The 4 x100m relay team of Brandon Janson, Nick Brabbs, James White and John Underwood stormed to a season's best win with 49.6, and the 4 x 400m team of Michael Goddard, Jack Hughes, James McCarthy and Ben Whitney also won in 4.07.3.
Under 13 boys
There was a triple win for Matt Sperling with victories in 100m, 200m and long jump. In the 1500m there was a Chiltern 1-2 for Bill Hughes in a Grade 1 time of 4.54.2 and Will Perkin in 5.00.7. A Chiltern 1-2 also occurred in the shot with Charlie Smith throwing a new PB of 7.75m and Sam Henning a new PB of 6.49m. Charlie also made second in the hurdles in 13.8, and Sam was second in the 800m. Ed Mundy gained good points as usual in the long jump and high jump and Rohan Montgomery made a solid debut in high jump (3rd) and 800m (4th). Also making his debut was Jack Denton who ran a very mature race to finish second in the 100m. Charles Page was third in the hurdles and Josh Hughes ran well in the 200m.
The 4 x 100m relay team of Charlie Smith, Will Perkin, Josh Hughes and Matt Sperling won the race with a season's best 56.2.
Under 17 women
Sophie East bowed out of Young Athletes League activity with a great set of performances, winning 100m, 200m, and javelin. Catherine Haigh won the triple jump and the 300m and was third in the javelin. Alicia Evans won the discus and was fourth in the 100m, second in the 300m.
Under 15 girls
The middle distance girls reigned supreme with a 1-2 in the 800m courtesy of Amy Harris and Hannah Wardley, and in the 1500m from Connie Lewis and Rosalind Firth. The sprinters also did well with Sarah Cross and Chess Gordge in the 100m, and Amy Nicholson and Claudia McInerney in the 200m also scoring well. Amy Harris and Hannah Shepard filled in the hurdling duties and the field events were covered by the nine girls, Rosalind and Connie managing a rare 1-2 in the javelin.
Under 13 girls
The Under 13 girls again scored very highly with star sprinter Rebecca Yeabsley to the fore. She won the 75m, 150m and 70m hurdles as usual, the hurdles in a PB of 11.7 to go top 5 in the national rankings. Back-up came from Rachel Klima, Evie Gardner and Robyn Lisle. In the 800m, despite running a PB of 2.34.1 (a Grade 2 time) Georgia Bingham was second behind a strong athlete from Kingston. Still suffering from illness Hannah Morton was third. The 1200m saw yet another huge margin come off the PB of Hannah Thear, this time to a Grade 1 time of 4.01.2. Claire Buttivant made her debut at this distance coming third and also scored in the shot. Robyn Lisle won the high jump with a PB of 1.30m. The relay team of Rebecca Yeabsley, Hannah Thear, Evie Gardner and Rachel Klima was narrowly pipped into second
