Chiltern Harriers had many winners in their third match of the league season, in completing a morale-boosting win at Terence McMillan stadium in Plaistow on Sunday.
The team racked up 500 points (their highest score of the season so far) in defeating Woking AC (476) and Ealing, Southall and Middlesex (352).
The blustery wind down the home straight made for slowish middle distance times but benefitted the sprinters.
Under 17 men
Ben Hall took two victories in the 1500m and 3000m, Toby Firth backing him up with second in the 1500m. Dominic Janson and Daniel Cady both ran well against good opposition in the sprints and dubutant Gus Bate won the 800m with George Gillingwater second. Everyone filled in for the relays and other events to maximise the scoring.
Under 15 boys
The throwers were in good form with John Underwood winning the hammer and second in the discus. Newcomer James Bunker took second in the shot and third in the discus and Callum Reid-Jones set a new PB by winning the javelin with 29.13m. The middle distance runners scored great points with Michael Goddard and Ben Whitney earning a 1-2 in the 800m, and Alex Johnson and Jimmy Davies second and third in the 1500m. Brandon Janson, James White and Nick Brabbs did well in the sprints and James set a new PB of 4.99m in winning the long jump. Alex Johnson won the high jump with 1.45m, Callum Reid-Jones coming third with 1.35m. The 4x100m relay team of Nick Brabbs, John Underwood, James White and Brandon Janson won in 49.80, and the 4 x 400m team of Alex Johnson, Ben Whitney, Jimmy Davies and Michael Goddard won in 4.04.20.
Under 13 boys
Matt Sperling excelled again in the sprints setting new PBs at 100m and 200m of 12.9 and 26.5 respectively, which takes him well into the top twenty nationally. In the 800m Will Perkin and David Willcox were second and fourth and the 1500m pair of Ed Mundy and Robert Hall both set PBs to record a Chiltern 1-2. Charlie Smith won the 75m hurdles in a PB of 13.80 and Ed Mundy won the high jump with 1.30m. George Robinson was second in the shot and again, everyone filled in with events not necessarily their speciality.
Under 17 women
Only Sophie East and Catherine Haigh were available for this match but both had great meetings with Sophie setting PBs at 100m, 200m and javelin and Catherine winning the 300m and coming second in triple jump and javelin.
Under 15 girls
Connie Lewis and Hannah Wardley were a Chiltern 1-2 in the 1500m, and Amy Harris and Rosalind Firth a 2-3 in the 800m. Sarah Cross, Chess Gordge, Claudia McInerney and Hannah Shepard all ran well in the sprints and combined to win the 4 x 100m relay in a season's best of 56.10. The sprinters and middle distance runners filled in for the field events with Claudia McInerney and Rosalind Firth earning a 1-2 in the high jump.
Under 13 girls
The Under 13s had a superb meeting, winning seven of the nine events. Rebecca Yeabsley continued her record-setting season with grade 1 times in the 75m and 70m hurdles and a further PB in the 150m. Hannah Morton and Claire Buttivant won an 800m 1-2, Georgie Bingham and Hannah Thear had a great battle to finish 1-2 in the 1200m, and Hannah Morton won the high jump. Roxanne Britnell did well in the sprints and long jump and combined with Hannah Thear, Claire Buttivant and Rebecca Yeabsley to win the 4 x100m relay.
The team remain in a strong fourth position in the league of nine clubs and the club's final match is a home fixture at Watford on July 18th where a strong turnout is expected.
