There were two winners from Chiltern Harriers at the inaugural Bucks Quadkids Championship and Open Meeting at Milton Keynes on Sunday. The Club had six young athletes taking part with Alex Ahern victorious in the boys Year 5 and 6 age group and Sandie Pohlman in the girls Year 3 and 4 age group. Orla Fawcett was the bronze medallist in the girls Year 5 and 6 age group.
The Quadkids event provides younger athletes with a broad introduction to track and field athletics with a 75m sprint, a long jump, a 'vortex howler' throw, and a 600m middle-distance run.
Alex performed well across all disciplines to record 11.0 in the 75m, 31.0m in the throw, 3.14m in the long jump, and 1.58.50 in the 600m. Sandie did especially well in the runs with 11.9 in the 75m and 2.10.6 in the 600m. She also threw 11m in the throw and jumped a long jump PB of 3.23m. Orla Fawcett ran close to her 600m best with 2.04.9 and also had a long jump PB with 3.20m.
In the open part of the meeting, Under 13 Hannah Thear took an amazing eleven seconds off her 1200m PB to record 4.09.0, which puts her in the top 50 in the national rankings, and Under 11 Angus Denison-Smith also ran the 1200m to record 4.14.6. Under 13 Amy Fawcett took part in the open 150m, 1200m and standing triple jump to gain useful track experience
