Chiltern Harriers young athletes continued their great progress in the McCain Young Athletes League with a big points haul at High Wycombe on Sunday.

A great turnout of fifty athletes coped admirably in atrocious conditions to amass 465 points and finish in second place behind league leaders Wycombe Phoenix.

Under 17 men
Newcomer Tom Botham excelled with a double first in discus and shot. George Gillingwater, Liam McDonald, Ben Hall and Jack Walker scored valuable points in the middle distance events and Daniel Cady, Tom Brady and Dominic Janson ran well in the sprints.

Under 15 boys
Again this was one of the club's strongest sections with a 1-2 in the 1500m for Michael Goddard and Alex Johnson, and wins for John Underwood in the 80m hurdles, hammer and discus, and Tim Riley in the shot. Brendon Janson, Alex Russell and Nick Brabbs ran well in the sprints and James McCarthy and Ben Whitney gained good points in the 400m and 800m. Callum Reid-Jones showed his versatility with points in hurdles and javelin, with Harry Sansom in the pole vault and Josh Meier in the high jump also contributing. The 4 x 400m relay team of Alex Johnson, James McCarthy, Ben Whitney and Michael Goddard were victorious

Under 13 boys
Will Perkin won the 1500m and Matt Sperling the 100m, both in PBs. George Robinson and Charlie Smith were second and third in the shot, and Josh Hughes, Sam Henning and David Willcox all ran PBs in the middle distance events. Ed Mundy did well in the high jump and Charles Page in the hurdles.

Under 17 women
Sophie East won both 100m and 200m with Georgie MacDonald third in each. There was a discus 1-2 for Phoebe Cutter and Alicia Evans. Isabelle Assirati PBd in the 300m, coming second. The relay team of Sophie East, Georgie MacDonald, Isabelle Assirati and Phoebe Cutter won the 4x100m.

Under 15 girls
Connie Lewis and Emma Barraclough won a 1-2 in the 1500m and Chloe Allen was second in the 800m. The sprints were taken care of by Claudia McInerney, Sarah Cross and Amy Nicholson and there were good all-round contributions by Hannah Wardley, Rosalind Firth and Hannah Shepard.

Under 13 girls
The middle distance runners were on top form with 1-2s in the 800m for Georgie Bingham and Hannah Morton and in the 1200m for Hannah Thear and Katie Bench. Hannah Morton won the high jump, Claire Buttivant the shot and Rachel Klima and debutant Roxanne Britnell ran well in the sprints. Robyn Lisle showed her versatility with second place in hurdles, high jump and long jump.
