Bank Holiday Monday saw the annual Pednor 5 mile road race, hosted by Chiltern Harriers and sponsored by Fox's Outdoor Adventure Clothing and Equipment. In ideal conditions on a lovely sunny spring evening, there were some great performances amongst the 163 finishers.
Fabian Downs of Chiltern Harriers won the race in 26.49, over 30 seconds ahead of second placed Charlie May of Vale of Aylesbury AC in 27.28. In third was Handy Cross Runners' Frank Fulcher who ran 28.16. First Junior was Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow's Nick Lingley in 28.31 who was fourth overall. First Vet 40 was Vale of Aylesbury's Martyn Summerfield in 28.46 with Chiltern Harriers' Tony Sheldon first Vet 50 in 31.21.
The men's team prize was a close fought affair with Aylesbury winning out on 45 points with Chiltern in second on 51 and Burnham Joggers third on 54. The Aylesbury foursome were Charlie May, Martyn Summerfield, James Bennewith and Mick O'Connor.
The ladies race was more clear cut with the Chiltern Harriers trio of Grace Birch (3rd), Jenny Coxon (4th) and Claire Stubbings (5th) finishing well clear of Burnham Joggers in second on 24 points and Aylesbury in third on 41. The ladies individual winner was Burnham's Tamsin Neale, coming home in 31.25. Second was Aylesbury's Julia Austin in 33.13, just ahead of third placed Grace Birch on 33.18. First Vet 35 was Claire Stubbings of Chiltern and first Vet 45 was Burnham's Elizabeth Annetts. The prize for first Junior went to unattached runner Grace Hill.
