Sunday 7 February saw five members of Chiltern Harriers AC sporting the club colours at the start line of the Blackmore Vale Half Marathon organized by the Blackmore Vale branch of the Lions Club in the heart of Thomas Hardy country in Dorset.

This was my fourth time to compete in this popular and competitive West Country run, but for Heidi and Mel Folkard, Brenda King and Debbie Tank it was a new event.

The conditions were ideal: cool and grey with little wind.
The course is varied with pleasant scenery but somewhat undulating with around 600ft of climb altogether. Starting with a mile or so downhill, it ends with the same mile or so uphill: a real sting in the tail (and legs)!

Times were:

Mel 1:42:12
Heidi 1:47:16
Richard 1:58:15
Brenda 2:02:57
Debbie 2:03:33

A pleasant surprise on finishing was to be greeted by Sian Thomas, who having just won third place in the Longleat 10k, drove the 30 miles to Bishops Caundle to support us! Well beyond the call of duty! Thank you, Sian.
