Despite the snowy weather Chiltern Harriers' annual festive race, the Bran Tub Relay took place in Hervines Park, Amersham on Sunday. Usually a road race, the icy pavements meant that this year the race transferred to the park and became a snowy cross country challenge.
There were seven teams of five in all, with team captains running two of the six legs. The course comprised two laps of a 700m circuit that skirted the perimeter of the park and provided a tough test with snow several inches deep in places.
The lead changed hands several times but the winning team ended up being the Yellow team captained by Connie Lewis and featuring Hannah Thear, Ellie Jones, Jamie Shepherd and Maddie Lacey. In a very tight finish Connie just managed to hold her lead from a fast finishing George Gillingwater, the Black team captain. George's final lap time of 6.08 was the fastest of the day, just edging Jack Dutton with 6.11 and Michael Goddard with 6.12. Connie ran the fastest female leg of the day with 6.32.
Connie's team finished in 44.40 with George's team (Joe Aherne, Katie McCarthy, Maria Slade, Alice Hall) second in 44.42. Steve Perkin's Red team (Katie Bench, Claire Buttivant, Hannah Wardley, Charles Page) were third in 45.28 and with 45.58 in fourth was Jack Dutton's team (Brian Slade, Richard Slade, Fran Lacey, David Willcox).
In fifth spot was Ben Hall's Purple team with 46.32 (Will Perkin, Claudia Jones, Sophie Morton, Martyn Cartwright) and sixth in 46.44 were Michael Goddard's Orange team (Stuart Lacey, Emma Buttivant, Lizzie Barraclough, Hannah Morton). In seventh spot in 47.57 were James McCarthy's Blue team (Amy Buttivant, Sandie Pohlman, Sue Slade, Robert Hall). Year 3s Tom Hall and Ellie Perkin ran individual laps of 5 minutes each in their mini-team.
