October Race Round-Up

Chiltern Harriers senior athletes have had a busy month in cross country, multi-terrain and road races.

On October 11th Tom Beedell and Fabian Downs received medals at the scenic 15K Ridgeway Run in Tring, with Tom in second place in 56.35 and Fabian third in 57.18 from the 473 finishers. Ian Lawson also had a good run to be 50th in 1 hour 11 minutes dead.

On the 18th Eddie O'Gorman won the Frieth Hilly 10k for the second year in a row, beating his own course record by 18 seconds to register a time of 35 minutes exactly. Also running well in a race of 357 finishers were Andrew Redington, 25th in 42.39 and, coming back from injury, Michael Turney, 55th in 45.15.

Fabian Downs was back in action for the 26th running of the 9 mile Ricky Road Run. Fabian won the 438-strong race in a time of 48.55, well ahead of the second placed runner. Winning the women's race was in-form Sian Thomas in a PB of 58.37. Chiltern Harriers won the women's team race thanks to Sian, newcomer Rebecca McCall, ninth in 1.06.22, and Heidi Folkard, 15th in 1.08.40. Winner of the women's Vet 45 prize was Kate Loach, in 1.09.02.

The Chiltern men could only manage second place this year to a strong and organised Gade Valley Harriers team. Fabian was joined by Steve Perkin, 16th in 58.15 and Simon Myers, 28th in 1.00.37.
