Twelve young Chiltern Harriers took part in the Moor Park junior races on Sunday as part of the Manches Moor Park 10K event, raising money for Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre for cancer support and information at Mount Vernon Hospital.
On a very hot afternoon on a flat, hard course around the playing fields of Merchant Taylors School in Northwood, conditions were energy sapping.
The first event was the Under 15s over two and a half miles and Amy Harris ran well to be second in 19.02 with Eleanor Dolan in third with 20.03. Amy Buttivant came 8th in 22.58.
The one and a half mile Under 12 boys race was won by Will Perkin in 8.45 with Oscar Mills coming home in 14th in 10.30 from a field of 38.
The 39-strong Under 12 girls race saw a Chiltern 2-3-4 with Claire Buttivant running 9.33 in second, Orla Fawcett 9.37 in third and Hannah Thear 9.53 to be third. Race winner was Marella Whitfield in 9.18.
In the Under 10 boys race Seb Mills ran 5.07 to be an excellent third out of 81 starters and the Under 10 girls event had a Chiltern 1-2 with Rhiannon Ward winning in 5.10 and Sandie Pohlman second in 5.12 from the large field of 112. Emma Buttivant also ran very well to be eighth in 5.56.
