The Bearbrook 10K road race saw further summer success on the roads for Chiltern Harriers with a team win for the men and second place for the women.
On a still, mild morning, over 400 starters set off on the fast, gently undulating course around south Aylesbury and Wendover. Chiltern's men's team was led home by Fabian Downs in third place, registering an impressive 33.32. Eddie O'Gorman was fourth in 33.42 and Derek Brown sixth in 34.00. Finishing the scoring was Richard Quantrill in 14th place in 36.23. Derek also won the prize for first Vet 40. Also featuring near the top of the field was Jon Taylor, 21st in 37.05. The Chiltern men finished on 27 points, well ahead of second placed North Herts Road Runners.
In the women's race Chiltern were second behind a strong foursome from Vale of Aylesbury AC. Sian Thomas was first Harrier home as eighth lady in 40.48. Barbara Ralph was 19th in 44.38 and Sarah Quantrill was 20th in 45.08. Fourth scorer was Sandra Reynolds, 23rd in 45.19, and continuing her return to running following the arrival of her first baby. Barbara Ralph was first lady Vet 55.
