There was a big Chiltern presence at the latest Watford open with most young athletes trying to set new personal bests in the 800m. Several were successful.
In the Under 13 girls Connie Lewis had another solid outing, running 2.33.80, a little off her best. Claudia McInerney also had a good run with 2.41.26 and Emma Barraclough set a large PB with 2.42.29.
In the Under 13 boys there was yet another PB for James McCarthy, breaking 2.20 for the first time in 2.19.81. Joe Cochrane with 2.28.11, Andrew Stenning with 2.33.92, and Callum Reid-Jones with 2.34.44 were all just outside their bests.
The Under 15 boys had a large contingent out and Jack Dutton was one hundredth off a new record with 2.04.81. Michael Goddard with 2.07.41, Jack Walker with 2.12.13, Dan Barraclough with 2.13.28, and Ben Whitney with 2.16.84 all set new PBs. Alex Johnson ran 2.17.27 to be just outside his record and Jimmy Davies ran 2.28.69 in his first proper 800m of the season.
A torrential downpour nearly put an end to the meeting but in dire conditions in the late evening Under 20 Alex Shelley ran 2.04.95 in his first 800m of the season. Senior man Matt Bennett ran in the next race and again was affected by the conditions to be outside his best. Veteran Steve Perkin ran 10.52.93 in the 3000m.
Previously senior man Fabian Downs ran in the BMC 1500 and recorded a new best of 3.58.52.
