The Chiltern Junior Triathlon was blessed with good weather for a change on Sunday and a great morning ensued with many excellent performances amongst the 156 competitors. The event was organised by Chiltern Harriers Athletic Club, Chesham Swimming Club and Amersham Tristars with many youngsters from those clubs up on the podium.
The Year 8 boys race saw a victory for Joe Long with Liam Prowse second and James Churchman third. The girls race was won by Lily Pearson with Alex Bousfield second and Magdelena Rospedzihowska third.
In the popular age 9-10 age group races, the boys race was won by Robert Hall in a fast time of 8.00. In second place was Charles Page and third was Peter Hughes. The team winners were 'Stampede' consisting of Robert, Charles and fourth placed finisher Ed Mundy. In the girls race, there was a 1-2-3 for 'Lightening Bolts' teammates Orla Fawcett, who won in 8.42, Lizzie Barraclough, and Emily Bench.
The biggest turnouts of the day came in the 11-12 age group races with 31 girls and 39 boys taking part. The boys race saw a first win in this event for Will Perkin, who finished in 13.17. His teammates Bill Hughes and Ben Smith shared second place in 13.59 and ensured that the 'Flowerpot Boys' had a comfortable victory. The girls race saw a victory for Alice Hall who destroyed the field with a powerful bike display. She won in 13.04. Second place went to Hannah Morton and third to Katie Bench. Katie's team, 'The Harrier Hares' won first prize with Claudia Jones (10th) and Sammy Bousfield (11th) making up the trio.
The boys 13-14 age group was won by Robert Hughes with Eddie Bentley second and James Kemp third. The girls 13-14 race saw a win for Emma Barraclough with Ellie Jones second and Chloe Parker third. The team win went to 'Lindor Bunnies', featuring Ellie Jones, Beth Hitchcock, and Harriet Rose.
The 15-16 races saw only one competitor in each event, Ben Hall and Heidi Loveland both putting in good times.
Prizes and medals were presented by Chair of Chiltern District Council, Jeremy Ryman, and Mayor of Chesham, Justine Fulford.
