Chiltern Harriers had 25 runners competing in the heat of Sunday's London Marathon. The conditions took their toll on some but there were several great performances.
There were three 'Top 10 in category' performances by Chiltern athletes. Leading the club runners home was Derek Brown, 6th in the Vet 45 age group, and 116th overall, in 2.36.25. Robert Burton was 3rd in the Vet 50 class, coming home in 2.43.33 - 255th overall. Barbara Ralph kept up her great record in this race by coming 3rd in the women's Vet 55 category in another great time of 3.18.53, 240th woman and a minute faster than last year.
Elsewhere Kingsley Nanton ran 2.49.40 and Richard Quantrill ran a PB of 2.50.51. Not far behind were Eddie O'Gorman, 2.53.16, Stuart Ellerby in 3.09.33, and Justin Fowler in 3.12.16. Ian Lawson dipped under the 'good for age' barrier to record 3.14.57 and second Chiltern lady home was Ali Young, in 3.20.31.
Other good age group results saw Steve Field finish 104th Vet 55 in 3.33.31, Kate Loach, 112th Vet 45 in 3.39.49, and Tony Molesworth 39th Vet 65 in 4.06.06.
Ever present London Marathon runner, David Walker successfully completed his 29th London Marathon in 4:38:46, with his son John and daughter-in-law Lisa also running.
Another family affair saw Roger Ellerby (3:39:53) running with his two sons Stuart (3:09:33) and Kevin (4:06:00)
In the Minimarathon, Michael Goddard was running for the South East region and Jack Dutton for Hillingdon Borough in the 13-14 age group. Michael ran a great 16.32 for the three miles and finished 20th in the age group in this very high calibre race. Jack recorded 17.17 and was 11th in the London Borough competition.
