Some of Chiltern Harrier's sprinters have made a start to competition in 2009 by competing in some high calibre events indoors.
Clarice Underwood, now competing in the Under 20 age group, recorded a 60m PB at the South of England Championships at Lee Valley on January 18th. Her semi-final time of 7.69 was a new record for her and puts her in the top ten in the national rankings, but injury prevented her from taking her place in the final. Fifteen-year-old Sophie East, now an Under 17, logged a time of 8.38 in her heat at the same championships.
Clarice also competed in the UK Champs in Sheffield and ran a 7.76 in the same heat as internationals Joice Maduaka and Perri Shakes-Drayton.
At the National Indoor Championships in Birmingham on 14th February, both Under 20 Joel Ramsbottom of Watford Harriers but coached at Chiltern, and Under 17 Joel Williams logged great times in their 60m races.
Joel Ramsbottom finished with 7.16 in his heat and made the semi-final where he was slightly slower, and Joel Williams achieved 6th place in the 60m final with a run of 7.20, and achieved 7.17 the previous week at Eton, putting him 14th nationally.
These efforts bode very well for the outdoor season to come.
