Marlow Half Marathon

2nd November

Chiltern Harriers' Eddie O'Gorman was the convincing winner of the tough Marlow Half Marathon on Sunday, completing the testing, hilly course in 1.14.42, over a minute ahead of his nearest rival.

Cool still conditions proved ideal for a race of this nature and the event, organised by Marlow Striders AC, attracted a large field with 871 finishers.

Despite having a strong male contingent, Chiltern just missed out on the team prize. Joining Eddie as the other team counters were Kingsley Nanton, fifth in 1.18.19, Richard Quantrill, 11th in 1.22.39, and Robert Burton, who won the prize for first Vet 50, 18th in 1.24.22. A powerful foursome from Maidenhead AC just came out in front.

The other prize-winner on the day was Brenda King who was first female Vet 60 in 2.02.52. Brenda was part of the Chiltern ladies' team that finished fifth, the others being Sarah Quantrill, 4th lady in 1.30.41, Sandra Reynolds, 7th lady in 1.36.32 and Kate Loach, 8th Vet 40 in 1.43.50. Winner of the ladies' race was Lesley Whiley from Reading Roadrunners and Maidenhead AC again won the team prize.
