A rainy but mild morning saw Chiltern Harriers win both men's and women's team prizes at the 25th Anniversary of the Ricky Road Run on Sunday.
A field of over 500 braved the gloomy and wet conditions for the 9 mile road race from Chorleywood to Little Chalfont and back that helps to raise funds for Water Aid and the Peace Hospice in Watford.
The Chiltern women were particularly dominant with Laura Butt winning the women's event in 58.30, and Ali Young just pipping team-mate Sian Thomas to second place in times of 59.27 and 59.29. Laura also won the trophy for first Vet 35. With three to count, the Chiltern women were comfortable winners. Indeed such was Chiltern's strength in depth at the race that the second team place was won by the next three Chiltern women home, Sandra Reynolds 8th in 62.43 (3rd Vet 35), Isabelle Winter 11th in 65.47 (5th Vet 35), and Kate Loach 13th in 65.54 (3rd Vet 45).
The men's race was not so one-sided but the Chiltern team comprising Michael Turney, 10th in 55.53 (6th Vet 40), Steve Perkin, 17th in 58.20, and Julius Fawcett, 20th in 59.00 were the first trio home to retain the team trophy for the club. Their points total of 47 was just enough to win with Gade Valley Harriers second with 49 points. Roger Ellerby was third vet 50 in 62.17 and Rik Edwards 10th vet 50 in 64.56
