There was a further opportunity for young runners to get some early season racing in at Saturday's schools event at Hughenden Park, High Wycombe, organised by Wycombe Phoenix Harriers AC.

The event attracted larger than usual fields which made for some exciting and high calibre races on the demanding hilly parkland courses which involve several crossings of a wide stream.
The Under 15 Boys 4K race was won by the Dr Challoner's Grammar School team of Anthony Lenihan, 2nd in 16.57, George Gillingwater, 3rd in 17.03, and Ollie Church, 4th in 17.13. Individual winner was RGS, Wycombe's Alex Goodall in a time of 16.39.
The Under 13 boys 3K event again saw a victorious Challoner's team with James McCarthy, 6th in 12.07, Joe Cochrane, 7th in 12.08, and Andrew Stenning, 8th in 12.14 making up the winning team. The Misbourne's Kieran Wye won the race in 11.27 with Gayhurst's Robert Sutherland 2nd in 11.41 and Sir William Borlase's James Veitch 3rd in 11.45.
The Year 5 and 6 1.5K race featured a large field of 203 finishers with Elangeni's Bill Hughes 2nd and Will Perkin 3rd. In a very competitive team contest with 20 schools featuring complete teams, The Beacon's team of Oliver Porter, David Willcox and Ed Mundy did well to finish in 2nd place. Winning team were St John's from Lacey Green.
The girls Under 13 race was dominated by Dr Challoner's High School, with Connie Lewis the winner on the 3K course in a time of 12.46, Amy Harris 2nd in 13.09 and Rosalind Firth third counter in 4th in 13.48. Picking up the bronze medal was The Misbourne's Emma Barraclough in 13.35.
The Year 5 and 6 girls 1.5K race again had a large number of finishers (136) and 19 teams competing with St John's again the leading team. Elangeni's Katie Pawlyn, 4th in 6.58, Jessica Empson, 10th in 7.17, and Rachel Padwick, 13th in 7.18, were the 2nd placed team. Butler's Court also ran well with Emily Heslop, 6th in 7.09, Isla Maynard, 7th in 7.11, and Katie Bench, 16th in 7.24 making up the 3rd placed team.
