Chiltern International Aquathlon

Sunday 14th September 2008

An unexpectedly glorious early autumn morning greeted Chiltern Harriers' inaugural aquathlon, held at the open air pool at Chesham Moor.

Around forty competitors took on the challenge of 400 metre swim at the pool followed by an out-and-back 5K run heading up Chesham Road towards Amersham, before doubling back on North Road for a fast second half and finish back at the pool.

Winner of the race was Tommy Sheldrick, of Berkhamsted Swimming Club and Dacorum and Tring AC, who followed a good swim of 5.58 with the fastest run of the day in 19.47 to finish on 25.45. This was over a minute ahead of second placed Steve Hyett (26.52) who was first male vet. In third place was Glen Helby in 27.22.

Winner of the female race was Manuela Capozorio in 27.59 with Ella Fisher second in 28.59 and Kenturah Hughes third in 30.38. First female vet was Paula Robinson in 31.38.

This was a well-received event, popular with competitors and will hopefully be the first of many similar races.
