Princes Risborough 10K

Sunday 6th July 2008

The Princes Risborough 10K, incorporating the Buckinghamshire 10K championships, attracted a good field despite the weather.

Chiltern Harriers took strong teams in both men's and women's races, the men having to settle for 2nd place but the women having a convincing victory.

The Chiltern women are currently showing great strength in depth and this was shown by having runners in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 15th positions from the 126 finishers in the ladies race. The winning three counters were Laura Butt in 40.25 (4th and 1st Vet 35), Debbie Wenman, returning to form after injury in 41.05 (5th and 2nd Vet 35) and Ali Young, 6th in 41.07.

Confirming her strong running in training was Sian Thomas, 7th in 41.14. Sandra Reynolds was 8th in 41.48 and in her first 10K, Judith Orr was 9th in 42.21. Barbara Ralph was 1st Vet 45 in 11th place in 43.14 and Isabelle Winter also had a good run to be 15th in 45.32.

The men were beaten into second by a strong host team from Vale of Aylesbury AC. Derek Brown was first Chiltern man home in 5th place in 34.42, only thirty seconds behind race winner Martin Bateman from Hillingdon AC in a close fought race at the front. Other team counters were Justin Fowler, 7th in 35.20, Elliott Mocharrafie (first junior), 16th in 37.44, and Michael Turney, 19th in a PB of 38.17.

Also featuring in the top forty from the 229 finishers were John Taylor, 24th in 38.50, Roger Ellerby, 28th in 39.27, and Ian Lawson, 40th in 40.47.
