Watford Open Meeting

Several of Chiltern Harriers young male athletes across the age groups took part in the latest Watford Harriers Open event at Woodside Stadium and focused on racing the 1500m distance.

In the second race of the evening Under 13 boys James McCarthy and Joe Cochrane were up against a variety of older athletes. James confirmed his good form at the moment equalling his PB with a time of 5.03.5. Joe was not far behind, logging yet another strong time for the season of 5.10.46.

In Race 3, first year Under 15 George Gillingwater smashed his PB by an amazing nine seconds to go below five minutes for the first time, recording 4.54.59.

Race 6 saw first year Under 17 Dan Loach record a season's best of 4.35.78, just ahead of Under 13 Michael Goddard, whose 4.36.70, although some way off his PB was still one of the best Under 13 times recorded this season in the UK for his age group.

Senior man Matt Bennett was third in a close fought Race 8, finishing in 4.11.42 and close behind was Under 17 Alex Shelley whose rapidly improving form brought him home in a PB of 4.12.26.
