South of England Athletic Association
Track & Field 2008 Championships
for Under 17 Men & Women and Under 15 Boys & Girls

The Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford, Kent

Saturday/Sunday 24/25th May

Three of Chiltern Harriers U17 athletes took part in this high standard event with athletes competing from all over the South of England.

On the Saturday Sam Rogers competing in his first major championship at 400m Hurdles was delighted with his performance finishing 6th in the Final and recording a new Pb 57.54secs which also gave him an English Schools qualifying time for the event.

First year U17 Joel Williams was also competing on Saturday in the 100m and was up against a very strong entry list. Finishing 4th in his heat in a new personal best time 11.28 secs he qualified for the semi-finals. In the semi-final he ran faster to record 11.18 secs but 5th place meant missing a place in the final by just a tenth of a second. However his new best time was good enough to qualify him for the English Schools championships in July.

In poor weather conditions on the Sunday Clarice Underwood comfortably won her heat of the 100m to qualify for the final. Although not firing on all cylinders on the track yet, as she balances the pressures of GCSE's with athletics, Clarice maintained her medal-winning record at major championships by taking silver behind long-term rival Twinnelle Hopeson in the final. Her time of 12.44 secs was a season's best and she looks forward to the major competitions that follow the exam season.
