Berkhamsted, Reading and Milton Keynes Half Marathons

It was a day of three halves for Chiltern Harriers on Sunday. Runners preparing for the London Marathon and those just enjoying the racing put in great performances.

Most popular choice was Berkhamsted where the club's men's team came third. From a field of 933 finishers, leading the way for Chiltern in sixth place was John Morton in one hour, twenty minutes, fourteen seconds. He won the prize for first Vet. Also featuring for the team were Michael Turney, 29th in 1.26.49, Sandra Reynolds, 32nd (3rd female) in 1.27.06, and Elliott Mocharrafie, 36th in 1.27.35.

In the five mile race linked to the half, with 271 finishers, Laura Butt was ninth overall and 2nd female in 31.52. Also in the Chiltern team which finished fifth was John O'Grady, tenth in 32.06 and Rob Engers, 88th in 43.30.

Meanwhile in Reading, Matt Bennett recorded a great PB, finishing 28th from a high class field of over 11,000. His chip time was 1.10.57. Also running very well at Reading were Richard Quantrill, 118th in 1.18.20, Mark Fallowfield-Smith, 159th in 1.20.19, and Sarah Quantrill, 529th (53rd female) in 1.28.58. Race winner at Reading was Kenya's Patrick Makau in a world class 1.01.19.

Finally, in Milton Keynes, Derek Brown was ninth from over 2000 finishers in this flat but twisty course in 1.14.56. Also preparing for London was Gary Walford, 104th in 1.27.22.
