Wolverton 5

24th November 2007

Fast times and PBs were in evidence at the Wolverton 5 road race at Milton Keynes Willen Lakes on Saturday. RFID chip timing led to accurate start-to-finish times, needed as the 335 competitors all started on the same narrow path.

Leading Chiltern finisher was Matthew Bennett hoping to improve on his 5 mile PB of 26.34. In eighth place and going well, Matt had a fall, badly gashing his hand and although up quickly, lost valuable seconds and momentum and eventually finished in 12th place in a time of 26.35. He was 9th Senior Man. Not far behind was Eddie O'Gorman in 19th overall, 14th Senior Man, in 27.07.

Chiltern's other three finishers all achieved PBs on the flat and fast course, despite the cold and fierce wind. Roger Ellerby was overall 79th and 7th Vet 50 in 30.51, Laura Butt was 81st and 7th Senior Woman in 31.00, and Steve Perkin was 149th and 14th Vet 40 in 33.54.
