The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Cross-Country Championships

Held at Newbury Racecourse in Berkshire

17th November 2007

Chiltern U13 Team (left to right) Michael Goddard, Jack Dutton, Peter Illingworth and James McCarthy.

The annual cross-country championships organised by the association of Clubs from the three Counties was held at this superb racecourse for the first time with the finish at the end of a 6 furlong straight in front of the main stand. Chiltern Harriers had only one team competing on the day, the talented U13 Boys team and they proved to be very successful as they took both individual and team gold medals. The race winner was first year U13 Michael Goddard who finished 15 seconds ahead of the silver medallist over the 3500m course. He was ably supported by Jack Dutton in 4th place, James McCarthy (only just 11 years old) in 8th place and Peter Illingworth in 10th position. Their fine run gave the team a narrow 3 points victory over a very strong Bracknell squad which was achieved despite the absence of another talented team member Dan Barraclough.
