A good turnout from Chiltern Harriers saw the club win both men's and women's team prizes at this 9 mile road race.
Starting in Chorleywood and running for three miles along the main A404 to Little Chalfont and back through the lanes to the start, this popular event is organised by Three Valleys Water to aid various water related charity projects.
A grey, damp and windy morning did not prevent 494 finishers and some improved times on the previous year, the winners' time the second fastest in the event's history.
The Chiltern men were led home by Matt Bennett, finishing fourth in an excellent 49.43. Completing the team were Steve Kirby, 10th in 53.22 and John Morton, 11th in 54.06. These three had a points total of 25 just holding off a strong St Albans Striders team who finished on 27. No prizes were awarded for juniors but Matt was the first competitor home under 20. Individual winner of the race was Matt Shone of Woodford Green in 45.55.
The winning ladies team comprised Sandra Reynolds, 3rd in 59.28, Laura Butt, 6th in 61.36, and Kate Loach, 12th in 64.47. Sandra won the Vet 35 age group prize and Kate was the winner in the Vet 45 category. The winner in the ladies event was unattached runner, Selena Staines in 57.28.
