Chiltern Harriers had a successful warm-up for the cross country season at the Chalfont St Giles 10K multi-terrain race. There were 175 finishers in this event, part of the Chalfont St Giles Show, and they enjoyed mild, still conditions and firm going underfoot.
The race is a mostly off-road challenge comprising farmland, woodland paths and several stiles between Chalfont St Giles and Amersham, returning along the Misbourne valley.
Winner of the men's race was Harriers' Steve Kirby in 37:34. Also featuring in the top twenty men for Chiltern were Fabian Downs ,4th, John Morton 7th, Tony Richardson 8th, Ian Lawson 13th, Gary Walford 14th and Roger Ellerby 19th.
Tony Molesworth received a special award (Bucks Building Society 100th Centenary - Oldest Finishing Competitor) coming home overall 60th in 50:50.
The ladies race was a 1,2,3 for Chiltern with Debbie Wenman coming home in 42.44 (overall 16th), just ahead of Laura Butt in 42:47 (overall 17th) with Isabelle Winter 3rd in 46.59 (overall 35th).
