Dorney Dash

Despite not having many of the strongest runners competing , Chiltern Harriers men still managed a creditable 12th place at the Dorney Dash 10K race on Saturday morning from the 37 complete teams finishing.

The event, organized by Datchet Dashers club, is run on the paths around Dorney Lake and attracted over 1100 entrants from a wide area. However, only 855 finished the race, some put off by the very wet conditions. The heavens opened just as the starting horn blew and several runners began to lose their numbers as vests became saturated.

At the head of the field, though, some fast times were posted. Men's winner was Tim Crossland from Leeds City in 32:12, and leading lady was Liz Hartney of Reading Road Runners in 37:16.

The Chiltern team comprised Michael Turney (67th in 39:20), Grant Whittaker (94th in 40:53), and Steve Perkin (151st in 43:09). Close behind for Chiltern were Rob Engers in 43:38 and Garry Page in 44:40.

In the ladies' race, Laura Butt was 20th in 42:57 and Louise Barnett 27th in 44:26.

The winning team for both races was London Heathside who brought a powerful squad on the day.
