Three of Chiltern Harriers young sprinters took part in this high standard event with athletes competing from all over the South of England, from Cornwall across to Kent and Norfolk. They were looking to gain from the experience and the opportunity to improve their personal best performances and two of them had a slim chance of winning a medal. Weather conditions were damp to say the least.
On the Saturday U15 Ross Wilson was competing in his first major championships and was pleased with a new Pb of 25.2secs in the 200m heats.
On the Sunday first year U17 Clarice Underwood and U15 Joel Williams took part in the 100m. Both produced good performances in their heats to qualify comfortably for the finals. Uncharacteristically Clarice had a poor start in the final and never got on terms with the leading three and finished 4th in 12.58secs.
In contrast Joel got a great start and held 2nd place until the last few strides of the race as he crossed the line in 3rd place just 3 hundredths of a second behind the silver medallist in 11.95 secs. All sprint times were affected by the conditions.
