Grant & Stone Marlow 5

Sunday 13th May 2007

Following on from Bank Holiday Monday’s Pednor 5 win, Chiltern Harriers men continued their excellent springtime form with another team victory on Sunday morning at the Marlow 5 mile race, sponsored by Grant & Stone.

This popular event, organized by Handy Cross Runners, again brought out a large field despite a cool and damp morning, with over 1300 finishers on the flat and fast road course through the centre of Marlow.

Individual winner was Amersham based runner Owain Jones, running for Chiltern Sparrows, in a time of 25.32. Second was Vale of Aylesbury’s Paul Gregory in 26.27 and close behind in third and fourth were Chiltern Harriers’ Eddie O’Gorman with 26.31 and Matt Bennett in 26.34. Antony Richardson was the third and final Harriers counter in 28th place in 30.10.

This gave Chiltern 35 points, earning them a one point victory from Hillingdon AC with 36. In third spot on 81 points were Datchet Dashers. The next three Chiltern finishers ran well enough to earn 12th place from the 37 complete running club teams with Gary Walford in 31.01, Robert Engers in 33.41 and Scott Clarke in 35.56.

The Chiltern Harriers ladies were not out in force but Jane Peel was 7th placed lady in the vet 40 category in a new PB, with a chip time of 37.48.
